Franklin, 90
Marlin "Joe Bob" Franklin, 90, passed away at his
Jasper residence on Thursday, July 9, 2009. Funeral services
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, in the Collins-Burke Funeral
Home Chapel in Jasper. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery
in Jasper. Visitation will be today, July 13, from 6 p.m. until
9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joe Bob Franklin was a life-long resident of Walker County. He
was a member of the Goodsprings Missionary Baptist Church, a
veteran of World War II, a 33 Degree Master Mason of York 211,
and an auto sales consultant for Franklin Motor Company.
He was known for captivating audiences with stories of his
childhood. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most of all
he was a beloved husband, brother, father, and grandfather.
Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and
Addie C. Franklin; a son, Marlin Franklin; a grandson, Daniel C.
Morrosis; five brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie Nell Groves Franklin
of Jasper; three daughters, Rebecca Morrosis and husband, Daniel
of Thornton, Colo., Libby Key and husband, Philip of Jasper, and
Mechelle Franklin of Jasper; one son, Joey Franklin of Jasper;
one brother, Louie “Jack” Franklin and wife, Juanita of St.
Petersburg, Florida; eight grandchildren; and 13
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Boogie Franklin, James Wade, Bill
Strickland, Jarod Prestridge, Daniel Headrick, Mike Groves, and
Ronnie Franklin. Honorary pallbearers will be Jake Vance, Kevin
Abbott, Myles Archibald and Brian Key.
