Studio Equipment

These pictures are representative of a "mid-budget" LPFM station. That is, one which is built around some "new" equipment but doesn't shy away from some of the better and well maintained "experienced" pieces of equipment. These pictures are examples of what you may choose to do.

Soon, we'll be building several different configurations of the LP-100 class station. we'll photograph and document each and every step of the way for you to see.

One of our EV RE-20's, a copy stand and a view of our "tried and true" LPB Signature II dual stereo console. You couldn't pay me enough to trade this old board in for one of the newer models. I've spent MANY, MANY nights maintaining the "nice", "new", boards for several stations. When I'm out replacing pots, switches, buttons, and entire modules for them, this old battleship just keeps on ROCKIN'! (Could also be a regular maintenance program, but you won't convince most of the stations that I've worked for of that. After all, "why fix it... it's still workin'!")

A view of the right end of the LPB. The monitor amp (not for the monitor on top of it!) can be seen as it sits beneath the #4 computer monitor. The computer associated with this monitor is one of two computers used for production and runs the 64 track version of Cool Edit Pro. That's 128 tracks of production power! Do we need to "steal" our imaging? I think NOT!

A close up view of the old LPB console. Note the "battle scars" from years of continuous use.

Now, almost three years old, our "programming workhorse" is about to be replaced with an upgraded system. As of 9/11/2000, it looks as though we'll be purchasing five BSI Wavestation packages... I've been testing the software with several different hardware configurations and have concluded that, overall, it's on the same level as most of the other systems which sell for twenty to thirty times the amount! (By the way, BSI did not pay for this endorsement in any way, shape or form, other than by putting forth a very well produced and thought out product!)

Run in "live assist" mode much of the time, this hard-drive automation system is currently loaded with about 3,000 selections. And the playlist is expanding by (on average) 300 songs per week! The really neat-o thing about this system is that it will do "time announce" cuts (and be accurate) in the voice of the "on-air" jock. It will also automatically talk over an intro right up to the vocal (or any predetermined point). It really is practically IMPOSSIBLE to decide whether you're listening to a person or a computer!
